Is Android Bad for Googles Brand?
Posted by admin / Under Apple Earbuds
The public doesnt trust Google as much as it does Apple. And the Nexus One debacle proves that without a customer service infrastructure, youre screwed. So wrote the best music analyst and one of the best bloggers extant, Bob Lefsetz on Lefsetz.com last week. He was making a point about how Apples biggest secrets to success lie in the companys ability to simply deliver the best customer experience of any corporation on the planet. His words as to how Apple got so good: Youve got to go back ten years. Actually, just a bit longer, to when Steve Jobs came...

Is Android Only Surging Because Apple Is Letting It?
Posted by admin / Under Apple Earbuds
This weekend, Ive been catching up on some reading. One post that was of particular interest to me was David Beachs article from last week about developing for Android. Beach, who is a product manager at eBay Mobile and a co-founder of 12seconds, basically says that the experience sucks for a number of reasons (all of which Google can fix, but will take quite a bit of work and time). But one quote in particular stuck out to me: Android has succeeded despite Google. In fact its safe to say that Android is successful for one primary reason. The iPhone...

How Steve Jobs Will Destroy Civilization
Posted by admin / Under Apple Earbuds
September 1, 2012 Steve Jobs unveils the Apple TV, a device which allows consumers to relieve themselves of the burden of owning movies and television shows. Previously, if people wanted to possess a movie or a television series, they would be forced buy a video cassette or DVD version, or they would have to suffer the inconvenience of recording these events on a tape or digital video recorder. Once either version was in hand, then, via direct playback or by running the recording, consumers could then watch these programs as many times as desired. The Apple TV changes everything. In...

Steve Jobs Is Stunned (And Scared?) By Android's Growth
Posted by admin / Under Apple Earbuds
During yesterday's iPod/Apple TV event Steve Jobs (all but) literally said he cannot believe how fast Android is growing. He boasted of Apple's success with iOS devices (iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone) saying Apple sees 230,000 new activations of iOS devices on a daily basis. That's pretty impressive, as it gives Apple a run rate of 84 million iOS devices on an annual basis. After throwing out Apple's stats, Jobs said, "we think we're ahead of everyone else," because, "we think some our friends are counting upgrades in their numbers." In other words, Steve Jobs is saying, "I can't believe that...

UNOFFICIAL: iPad Absolutely Transformational
Posted by admin / Under Apple Earbuds
Im flagging this as UNOFFICIAL because its not my intent to convey any formal Gartner positions here, only a few key personal observations. I dont buy every new technology that comes along (even my wife would begrudgingly agree but argue that I buy too many ). And I avoided the iPad siren call at announcement time. It was at the Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston in June (and a few other events in roughly the same timeframe) that I was seduced. A lot of folks, particularly sales and marketing types, were using them. So I went out and bought a 3G...
